On September 9-12, 2021, with the blessing of the Most Reverend Bishop Benedict (Aleksiychuk), the Mission Institute of the St. Nicholas Eparchy held its annual meeting of the School of Evangelization.
This year’s meeting was the second formal gathering of the group which was held at the American Ukrainian Youth Association Campgrounds “Beskyd” in Baraboo, WI. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Christianity in the Modern World”. The spiritual speakers for the gathering were Heirmonk, Rev. Illia Mamchak, the spiritual leader for the Dormition of the Mother of God Monastery, in Richmond, IL and the Very Rev. Serhiy Kovalchuk, the Administrator of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Chicago.
The participants of this gathering, numbering nearly 40, were parishioners of several parishes of the St. Nicholas Eparchy. These participants had the opportunity not only to become enriched by the teachings provided by the speakers but had the opportunity to individually experience personal spiritual educational teachings as well as learn about the mysteries of repentance. These spiritual teachings are very important for the laity for not only do they personally gain spiritual awareness and learn from the various teachings but also it enriches their ability to share their learned knowledge and experience with others in their respective parishes.
The School of Evangelization was initiated by Most Rev. Bishop Benedict (Aleksiychuk) at the St. Nicholas Eparchy Mission Institute in 2019. This school can be attended by anyone who would be interested, who yearns to learn more about God and God’s will, who wants to enrich their spiritual life by acquiring some theological knowledge that would help them in their spiritual growth. Active participation in the school gives its students the opportunity to see life as a Christian from many angles and perspectives. The lessons of evangelization are ongoing with sessions taking place on the first Friday of each month held at St. Nicholas Cathedral.
